Aba and I

My distance from my homeland - Israel has enabled me to clarify my needs and place within relationships. From a fear of loss came a desire to connect. In this work, I corresponded with my father (“Aba” in Hebrew) through e-mails to construct a piece that describes our relationship. The work features a slide show displayed in a digital photo frame showing distorted images created by projecting family photographs of my father onto my body. The digital frame allows for the rotation of images, to which I also add the sound of my voice reading our correspondence. The translated correspondence alludes to our physical distance. The use of a slide show creates a representation of the experience and suggests memory and nostalgia.
